Repair guide
A failed check comes with a fix. This page explains how to use the repair pack, and what to do when a fix does not apply to your site.
What the repair pack contains
Every failed check produces a fix entry with three parts:
- What failed — the check code and the evidence that decided it, in one sentence.
- Why it costs you — which question the failure breaks, so you can judge the priority.
- What to change — the concrete edit, with the snippet or file to change where one applies.
You keep the repair pack whether or not you pay us anything.
Working through it
Start with group A. A reachability failure makes the other fourteen checks
unmeasurable. Fix robots.txt, the sitemap and the JavaScript-rendering problem first;
everything else is decoration until those pass.
Then group B. Identity problems — a missing title, no JSON-LD, a broken heading hierarchy — are cheap to fix and apply to the whole site rather than one page. Do them once, properly.
Then group C. Quotability is the slowest group, because it is about what you write and not only about markup. It is also the group that decides whether you get quoted rather than merely read.
Regrouping a recheck
Fix, then recheck the same URL. Rechecks score the same fifteen checks against the same standard version, so the difference between two reports is caused by your changes and not by ours. The report keeps both, and the score history shows the movement.
When a fix does not apply
Some fixes assume a stack you may not have. A static site and a JavaScript application
need different work on the same failed check, and a shop platform may not let you edit the
robots.txt at all.
If a fix does not fit, the useful question is what the check actually measured. Take A2 as the example: it does not require a particular framework, only that the text be in the first response. Server-side rendering, pre-rendering and static generation all pass it, and the choice between them is yours.
If you are stuck, write to hello@aeolith.com with the report link. A report is public only if you published it, so include the URL if you want us to look at the specific evidence.
What the repair pack is not
It is not a rewrite of your copy, and it is not an opinion about your business. It is a list of the specific things a machine could not read, and the smallest change that fixes each one.
